Breasts come in all shapes and sizes. Our pump comes with the 24mm and 28mm shields, which should be a good fit for the majority. However, if 24mm and 28mm shields are not giving you a good suction you may need an insert to help improve the fit and get a good suction.
We offer 3 insert sizes. 18mm and 22mm inserts should be used with the 24mm shield. While the 26mm insert should be used with the 28mm shield.
The inserts have no harmful chemicals, such as BPA, PVC, and phthalates. They are made from 100% food-grade silicone, which makes them eco-friendly and recyclable.
The inserts are dishwasher and microwave safe, so you can easily wash them and sanitize them as needed.
Choose The Right Size
The pump comes with 24mm and 28mm breast shields (flanges).
Start with the 24mm. If 24mm is too small, try 28mm next.
If 24mm shield is too big, lack of a proper suction is a clear sign, then you can get a smaller insert either 18mm or 22mm to help improve the suction.
The size of the shield depends on the size of your nipple, measured at the base (refer to the diagram below).
- If your base width is 16mm and below, use 18mm insert.
- If your base width is between 16mm – 20mm, use 22mm insert.
- If your base width is between 18mm – 22mm, use 24mm shield.
- If your base width is between 23mm – 26mm, use 28mm shield.
- If 24mm feels too small and 28mm feels too big, try a 26mm insert.
A good fit would be a shield size that is 2mm – 4mm larger than the nipple base. That’s a good rule of thumb.
Remember, breasts tend to change size as time goes on. Try changing shield sizes to get a better fit if the current shield size becomes uncomfortable or you’re not getting a proper suction.
Note, it’s completely normal to use different sizes for each breast. You want to get a proper suction for each breast, which means you might need 24mm for one breast and 26mm for the other breast. That’s completely normal!
